28-December on-sky testing of version 2.6

Had some on-sky testing of version 2.6 on the night of Friday, 28-December-2012. We wanted to check out:
  • ability to change the spiral search overlap size from the GUI
  • automatic offsetting during acquisition
  • sort of starlist in the GUI
  • focuser functionality

There's some junk in the starlist - why does the sun show up? "Sol" with mag of -27

we couldn't acquire stars with 2.6 initially. The first measurements we saw were 02:15UTC with version 2.5. Went back and forth at this point between versions to figure out if it was related to the new version. It appeared to be, even though I had disabled the offsetting.

Then, I thought maybe I had not turned OFF the offsetting correctly and that maybe that was causing the problem. Ran 2.6 again, and we were able to acquire the star:

After awhile, we could not get it to acquire again -- we could see the stars in the full-frame image, in the middle, but ... sometimes we'd get it, like this case, but then not see 2 stars after centering:

And other times, we'd not get it when we "start measuring". Even though we had handpaddled it in perfectly.

we saw some instances where we would handpaddle the star to the mark, and then it would scoot off immediately. It looked like it could be related to the offsetting. But, it shouldn't have been trying to do an offset

Focuser

We tested the move-in/move-out/stop functionality of the focuser. When we used the slider, we ended up getting an exception. We never got the connection to the focuser back.
In fact, we worked several hours on Saturday with Elliott and Kevin and never got it back until the telescope moved to zenith. ???
Here are the excepted log messages:

Changed the code (created a new version of 2.5) to not allow setting a numerical value or using the slider. Only can use the move-in/out/stop buttons.

Spiral still doesn't get the star. The percentage value is how big you move:
 udSize=width*scale*searchSize/3600

So, moves about 1041 pixels in width when using 75% and about 768 in height.
I need to map the spiral search moves to handpaddle moves. Spiral search does the following moves:
      UD LR
     -udSize 0
      0 -lrSize
      udSize 0
      2*udSize 0
      0 lrSize
      0 2*lrSize
     -udSize 0
     -2*udSize 0
     -3*udSize 0
      0 -lrSize
      0 -2*lrSize
      0 -3*lrSize
.... 56 times

We tried multiple sizes of the search overlap. 0.6 0.5 0.4 0.3

Guiding

We were able to handpaddle the mount and see that the guiding would keep it close to center.
