Tracking OB execution

During the night, one of the SDT observers should be monitoring the incoming data, checking that the image quality is good and the seeing within the project's constraints, and noting any other problems which affect the data. They should log these values and comments and then, at the end of the night, annotate the list of OBs and their status.

Current Summary

The list is also on the mountain in the directory /home/sdtobs/weblog, which contains also the tools to edit it and a README file of instructions on how to do this.

The following step-by-step guide is based on the README file:
  • At the end of the night, put all of the data from that night (UT YYYYMMDD) into a subdirectory of /Repository, /Repository/YYYYMMDD.
  • cd into /home/sdtobs/weblog
  • Type ./make_read_obs.csh YYYYMMDD to make a log from the headers
  • Then type ./ YYYYMMDD to match the unique OBs that were observed.
    • this will write the timestamp: YYYYMMDD.HHMMSS of the first image of the OB to the corresponding line in the OBlist file as well as the airmass of the observation.
    • it will query for seeing, sky conditions, when the OB should be repeated if it is part of a time-series, a quality note and whether or not it needs to be re-observed. Leave the last 2 fields (quality and re-observe?) at the defaults (under_PI_review and UNDEF) if the data look OK, but if there are obvious problems, note these and tag the data as to be repeated.
  • check the with a text editor
  • if it is OK, then mv OBlist.execsummary.dat
  • Run ./ OBlist.execsummary.dat to convert the file to html
  • email the output to me and I will put it at the URL above (it is html and doesn't work to attach to the wiki page, but we should fix this so the observers can post the page themselves).
