Plan for LUCIFER and LBC technical nights

LBC

List of things to do (ordered not by importance but according to the conditions needed):
  • Test procedure for taking flat fields - Running any of the Flat sequences would cause the telescope not to preset (dec=-90) but to track and dither about its current position. In March, we discovered that it does not dither, perhaps as a result of the change made last September (2009) to the way LBC made dithers (preset + offset, offset, offset vs preset+offset, preset+offset, preset+offset...) (see IT #2529 and #2605).

  • We did not really test this because I wanted to get good dithered flats (although not having the LBC in the beam did not help), but I think we'll need to make a script to populate the coordinates of generic flat field OBs.
  • Measure rotator centers for Blue and Red. The cryostats of both LBCR and LBCB were removed/replaced in February or March. We have not checked the rotator centers since then because we lost the March technical nights.
  • Test various recent software changes -- approximate list, of which some things have already been tested (but good to do again I think). Make one or two OBs to test these?
    • Blue master, Red slave - how is red guiding? not tested
    • Rotator in position at first dither? not really, see list of header info below
    • Does offset work if first dither position is not 0,0 from base? not tested
    • Are offsets absolute? yes, see list of header info below *OB could be for LQG at 10h 05deg. I have an OB at /home/LBTO/kuhn/lqg1.ob. It uses Us and Y - so let's take a flat at these filters at the start. It is a sparse field but have mapped the dithers and some star should be in tech 1. Predicted overlays will be linked (*jpg in /d2/kuhn/LBCdata/AlignTec)...How well do they match the actual data?

  • Determine the Blue Z22 zero point and consequent changes to Z11 and Z4 (scale blue filter focus offset) (requires good seeing)
    • On 24 October 2009 we worked on this and think that it should be changed by -170 nm, so BlueZ22Zero in lbcfpia.cfg should go from 2.3 to about 1.5; see http://wiki.lbto.org/twiki/bin/view/PartnerObserving/2009Oct24UT. But initial images with this offset were not in focus. A change in Z22 Zero Point would require changes also in Z11 and in focus Z4 and these were not made then. These would be changes to BlueFinalZ11Zero and to Z4 (Z4 to change as -1.9* BlueFinalZ11Zero or by another factor?).
  • Fine-tune 3x3 matrix of z4,z11,z22 coefficients in lbcfpia.cfg (requires good seeing)
  • Make a new collimation model (should be done after Blue Z22 zero point and matrix fine-tuning)
    • we should have M1glass in the header and also have TTEMP201, M1ambient and LBTTEMP - need to determine which temperature to use.
  • Give SX global offsets to co-point at high elevation (should be done after collimation model)
    • an iraf script mirradjust should calculate these for manual input to PSF LEFT.
  • Check red/blue filter focus offsets (requires good seeing)
    • any particular ones to check?
      • z has had larger than average scatter - both in time and across FP
