UT 20171212 LUCI2 AO Nighttime Commissioning

Observer LUCI-Team: JHeidt (LSW), APramskiy (LSW), DThompson (LBTO)
Observer AO-Team: GTaylor
Telescope Operator: DGHuerta

Observations done remotely from Tucson

Plan for the night

- PSF-wobble and nodding tests, AO PFC-spec if conditions allow

- seeing-limited AFC-spec or stuff by LBTO otherwise

Summary

- A bit of PSF-wobble data

- Some seeing-limited AFC-spec data

Details

All times are UT
Files are luci1/2.20171212.NNNN.fits

00:18 Sunset, overcast, T = +3deg, hum = 5%, low wind

Stay closed, Greg is checking the new PSF-wobble correction prepared by the Arcetri-team

02:35 David gives it a try and opens, check pointing and collimates

Seeing is borderline DIMM around 1.2-1.3", we give it a try

PSF-wobble

02:58 Preset to a star double star at 2h10m39.56s 44d42'16.6" OK, bin=2, RunAO failed,
resent preset, RunAO worked, but seeing to unstable and cirrus get thicker, stopped,
Greg could at least verify that the AO works properly with the new SW

DIMM 1.3-2"

Clouds thinner, retry

03:41 Preset again, OK, RunAO OK, Fe II, about 77deg elevation,
wobble data: #16-45, 46-75, 76-78 (6*5sec int, 30 frames), small offset after 30 frames each
loop opens after frame #76, clouds too thick, stopped at 04:45 and wait

DIMM 1.3-2.0" but loop keeps closed

Seeing-limited AFC-spec

N3.75-camera, G200/zJspec, 1.17mue

05:50 Still bad, but try a bright star at 4h30m, 80deg elevation, alignment OK, AFC started,
1.17mue, zJspec, AFC started, SRR: #84-89, MER: 90-95, G200/HKspec @ 1.93mue #96 (for Dave)

DIMM: 0.8-1.3

N1.8-camera, G210/J, 1.25mue

07:25 Preset to a very high-elevation-star (dec +38), SRR: #101-106, MER: #107-112

N1.8-camera, G200/zJspec, 1.17mue

08:45 Preset to a very high-elevation-star (dec +38), startet, but grating tilt went bananas,
restart AFC, rotator very close to limits, stopped, unwrapped, preset again, restartet AFC once more,
SRR: #126-131, MER: #132-137

10:45 Handover to Olga for ToO

End of run
