The Hydrostatic Bearing System (HBS) supports the mass of the telescope through the use of a pressurized oil film and allows the telescope to be driven by the primary electric motors. A secondary function of the HBS is providing power to the auxiliary hydraulic motors which power telescope motion in circumstances where the primary electric motors are insufficient. Situations for use of the auxiliary drives include routine maintenance where the telescope is out of balance, and non-routine activities where the primary drives cannot provide the required torque.

    • Hard reset of the HBS cabinet will usually clear this alarm. The pump 4 VFD is the expected culprit
