Plan:

  • ARGOS/ESM Script Location: RM 507(32bit): /home/observer/Service_Observing/Eng_UT14Oct2019/ARGOS_Test_Oct13_2019.tar.gz
  • Proceed through list as time permits
    • - skip MODS reconfig if short on time
    • if no ARGOS attempted - proceed through list - M34 or M103 is optional and should only be done if M52 and HCG31 cannot be observed for some reason
  • OSCO - LUCI-2
  • ND-4 data collection (pending approval from AO)
  • If conditions are clear (and any seeing):
    • Script location: RM507(32bit): /home/observer/Service_Observing/Eng_UT14Oct2019/LUCI_PhotZP.zip
    • LUCI-Bino standard observing inter-spersed through night
      • Observe G191B2b and GSPC P161-D - 25 min per script
  • if non-photometric continue through list
  • ESM characterization - LUCI-Bino
    • Script location: RM507(32bit): /home/observer/Service_Observing/Eng_UT14Oct2019/ESM_Characterization.zip
    • M52 - 45 min per AO Ref star script - optimal is to do both (1.5 hours)
    • HCG 31 (if time) - if only one M52 script can be done, then do HCG 31 script (45 min)
    • M34 or M103 if M52 has set - M34 is 45 min, M103 is 45 min per script - skip if M52 (one or both) and HCG31 are observed
  • If after 3:30AM
    • If conditions are clear (and any seeing):
      • Observe G191B2b and GSPC P161-D - 25 min per script
    • if non-photometric continue through list:
      • Arp 187 Scripts: RM507(32bit): /home/observer/Service_Observing/Eng_UT14Oct2019/LUCI_LocalMergers.zip
      • Observe Telluric for Arp 187 first
      • Arp 187 LUCI-1 G210HK 0.5"silt - total 1 hour with overheads
  • if 1:50AM < time < 3:15AM - reconfigure for MODS
    • Script location: OBS-N /home/lbto/Service_Observing/20191010/V392Per
    • V392 Per - 40 min with overheads - object can be observed between 2-4AM
    • G191B2b - 15 min with overheads
    • Reconfigure for Bino LUCI - authorize LUCI-1
      • If conditions are clear (and any seeing):
        • Observe G191B2b and GSPC P161-D - 25 min per script
      • if non-photometric continue through list:
      • Arp 187 Scripts: RM507(32bit): /home/observer/Service_Observing/Eng_UT14Oct2019/LUCI_LocalMergers.zip
      • Observe Telluric for Arp 187 first
      • Arp 187 LUCI-1 G210HK 0.5"silt - total 1 hour with overheads
      • If conditions are clear (and any seeing - twilight observations OK):
        • Observe G191B2b and GSPC P161-D - 25 min per script
      • if non-photometric and into twilight can close up and take cals
      • if still dark and non-photometric when last Arp 187 exposure is done, skip to first spectroscopic exposure and take a few more exposures until its time to close up (extra S/N only builds up confidence in forbidden line detections)
  • If conditions are super-poor (several mags of extinction form clouds and/or bad seeing) - Proceed with observing H-band library targets - scripts are about 30min each

    • HD 39225 H=2.3 visible from midnight onwards
    • HD 42474 H=0.8 visible from midnight onwards
    • HD 42475 H=1.0 visible from 1am onwards
    • HD 42543 H=0.9 visible from 1am onwards
    • 49 Aur (V=5.2) is the Telluric star for all 4 objects. Proceed with Telluric star first, then take do 2 H-band library stars, then proeed to repeating the Telluric star (40 min for the star)

  • Engineering Tasks
    • On-Sky Checkout (OSCO) - for LUCI-2 - note: N30 fieldstop cannot be used - 0.5hr (High Priority) - LE-2019B-001
      • Execute at start of 2nd half - or to be done when/if ARGOS hands over to Eng
    • ND4 observations Bino-LUCI 0.5hr (High Priority) - Requires SOUL/FLAO
      • Move to bright star, take data through the ND4 at different focus positions to calculate correct focus.
      • LUCI-1 requries spectro-sieve, LUCI-2?
    • Continued Characterization of ESM LUCI-2: (Medium Priority) - LE-2019B-003
      • Binocular Observing SL (LUCI-1) and ESM (LUCI-2) - use scripts already prepared for ARGOS/ESM testing
        • M52 bright and faint AO Ref star 1.5 hrs - highest priority amongst observations - visible from midnight until 4am
        • M103 bright and faint AO Ref star 1.5 hrs - visible from midnight until morning twilight
        • M34 1hr - visible from midnight through morning twilight
        • HCG 31 1hr - visible from 12:30am through morning twilight
    • Photometric Zeropoints for LUCI-Bino - any seeing conditions - requires clear skies - LE-2019B-002
      • Multiple visits needed to sample different airmasses (try for at least 3 visits) - 25 min per standard, 4pt dither for zJHKKs
      • G191B2b - specphot std - visible 2nd half - Priority One
      • GSPC P161-D NICMOS standard / 2MASS std - visible from 12:30am onwards - Priority One (already have previous data points)
      • GSPC P247-U NICMOS standard / 2MASS std - visible 2nd half - 2nd priority
  • Backup D-time
    • H-band Library (LUCI-1 only) - poor conditions (>2" seeing and/or many magnitudes of extinction) - 0.5hr per target - LD-2019B-003
      • 4 targets - Mstars
        • HD 39225 H=2.3 visible from midnight onwards
        • HD 42474 H=0.8 visible from midnight onwards
        • HD 42475 H=1.0 visible from 1am onwards
        • HD 42543 H=0.9 visible from 1am onwards
        • Telluric star - 1 star is good for all 4.
    • V392Per - M. Wagner (MODS-Bino) - LD-2019B-002
      • Visibility from 2am until 4am
      • Need SpecPht Standard Feige110 or G191B2b
    • Local IR Mergers (Arp 187 G200HK 0.5" slit LUCI-1 only) - LD-2019B-005 - 1 hour (including overheads and telluric)
      • Visibility from 1:15am through morning twilight
