  1. MCSPU/TCS new build - Top Priority - but transparent to actual observations - patches/builds will be installed before we open and if necessary reversion to older builds will occur if problems occur (Top Priority)

  1. Non-sidereal tests on the quasi-satellite target (High Priority)
    • GCS/WFS test- fast mover/bright - check reduced exposure times, auto checks can be overridden - This REQUIRES using the NSIGUI (target: 469219 or 2016 HO3)
      • rm507-N:~/Service_Observing/E_IT7643WFS/
        --- location of scripts (binoLUCI), README and OT program file.
      • The scripts are based on UT time
      • Will need to manually change GCS GUI exposure times
        • open the GCS GUI, in the "Window" menu at the top left
        • select "Guide Control"
        • Near the bottom of the window that pops up next to "Nominal WFS Exposure", change the 30000 to 4000 and click "Set
        • If the guide probe is expected to move during the WFS exposure, then the WFS exposure will be blocked. There should be some red on the GCS GUI Guide Control window. Click
        • "Set" again to set again the desired exposure time and "unblock" the WFS.
      • Time ~ 20min to complete
    • IT 7642 - make sure NS longslit acquisitions are consistent - bypassing WCS - this should be tested during acquisition of above scripts
  2. LUCI - Dithering test - seeing < 1.25" DIMM (High Priority) - Target transits at handover
    • ESM-DX Only
      • The scripts are in /home/lbto/Service_Observing/E_dithertest
        • E_Feb17UT_dithertest.xml (OT program file)
        • Scripts_BinoSL+L2ESM_14h10d
          • Script to use: L2_ESM_14h10d_fixed.xml
        • Time to complete ~45min (w/overheads)
  3. Non-Linearity test on sky - Bino-LUCI - field with range of stellar brightness - Dice-5 pattern (Medium Priority) - Target transits at twilight
    • IC 4665 - H-band

  4. ESM on-sky tests - M92 - Target rises from handover (elevation 55 degrees) - transits at 3:45 am
    • M92 mixed mode - SL on LUCI-1 - ESM on LUCI-2
    • Scripts are located in: /home/observer/Service_Observing/E_ESM_test
      • Readme file: ESM_M92_Testing.Readme
      • M92_Bino_L1SL_L2ESM_R9pt4.xml - this is a bin 2 AO Ref star
      • M92_Bino_L1SL_L2ESM_R15pt1.xml - this is a bin 4 AO Ref star
      • scripts do a 13pt dither (9 on field, 4 off to sky) and cycle through Ks, H, and J filters (per dither)
      • time to complete both scripts ~ 1.5 hours
  5. Poor Weather Backups: - to be executed in poor seeing (>>1.5" on DIMM and/or up to 4-4.5 mags of cloud extinction)
    • LUCI-Bino H-band Library (K and M-stars and test QSO target)
      • Scripts are located in: /home/observer/Service_Observing/E_Poor_Weather_HbandLibrary
      • Readme file: Rothberg.H-band_Library.readme
        • 4 science targets (late-type stars) + 3 Telluric stars (2 science stars share a telluric star)
      • If one LUCI fails, switch to mono for the other LUCI and continue.
      • Each star+telluric takes ~30 min to complete w/overheads - if S/N is low in spectra - repeat dither pattern ~ binocular completeion ~ 2 hours+
      • QSO can be observed in better conditions than the library (Observations can be executed in seeing (DIMM) up to ~1.5" and up to 3 mags of clouds)
        • This can be used as a "filler" for time between other tasks - the target moves from 75 elevation at handover (transits at ~82 at 1am) to 50 elevation just after twilight
        • Time to complete ~1hour including Telluric

NIGHT PLAN (Order of Operations)

  1. ESM Dither Test (LUCI-2 DX only - skip if LUCI-2 is unavailable)
  2. NS WFS/GCS Test (Bino LUCI or monocular LUCI)
  3. ESM on-sky test (1 or both scripts - observer's perogative - Binocular or LUCI-2 DX only - skip if LUCI-2 is unavailable)
  4. QSO observation (Bino LUCI or monocular LUCI)
  5. Non-Linearity Test (Bino LUCI or monocular LUCI)
