UT 01:51 closed

UT 02:00+ P. Kubanek working on TCS 2018B build - closed dome testing

UT 03:00 - checking to see if conditions OK to open

UT 03:01 - powering up LBCs - taking test biases (will attempt NS testing at end of night).

UT 03:18 - starting up LUCI software - in case need to start checkouts - simple imaging and filter exercises

UT 03:57 - We were open briefly, but now closing for threatening clouds. In the meantime, James is making interesting vibration measurements on MV blowers and summer chiller.

UT 06:32 - Opening again - HBS problem with Pump 4 fixed.

UT 07:00 Check pointing on M5 star - SX IE=-53 CA=26 DX IE=-130 CA=+14

UT 07:07 Active preset to Persson star, but we missed the SX guide star on the first try.

AGW4 initial collimation

UT 07:12 SX active optics runs away, so we are back to where we stopped last night. Blocked Zernikes and clear active optics.

Changing lenslet_edge_x now changes fits header correctly, and changes lenslets in tcslog, but does not change Pupil Center as seen by IDL.

07:28 collimate_multiple, 3, /send_zern to collimate with IDL

07:32 resend active preset and running gcs_wfsc_display again while making small changes in lenslet_edge (hoping that offline comparison will reveal something)

Note that on the right side the IDL and GCS "Pupil Center" values agree at the 0.01 pixel level (even though M3 position has pupil out of place).

This confirms that GCS is getting the lenslet edge values from the config file - and that the X0,Y0 changes with changing lenslet edge. It is interesting to note that "edge" is used as a higher value than the lenslet center.

Preliminary adjustment of DX M3

07:48 switch to preliminary DX M3 adjustment (applying the same offsets Doug measured at the 4D focal station as a first guess)

Starting DX M3 absolute Tip=-1200 Tilt=+400 arcsec

Moving in steps of 40 arcsec on M3 to Tip=-865 Tilt=-360 (delta +335, -760). The basic strategy was successful. This moved the DX pupil closer to the normal pupil position, but did not quite center it in the historical subimage cutout. Saved this new position in positions.conf until we get a better value.

08:01 ACQUIRE preset to update pointing and move to elevation less than 84 degrees. SX IE=-36 CA=+5 DX IE=-62 CA=+1

08:07 ACTIVE preset - collimate left side with IDL. IDL converged nicely, but image is jumping into funny shapes.

LUCI wake-up observations

08:15 Preset from LUCI for wakeup. SX side didn't find guide star.

08:18 ACQUIRE preset unwrapping rotator (we had 01:54 hh:mm) - pointing is just fine back on the previous M5 star, and on the Persson star.

SX AGW position (mm): 18.268, 124.477 - well centered.

08:22 Preset from LUCI for wakeup again at PA=270. Again we don't see guide star. Take note that this is our first off-axis guide star with AGW4.

08:24 manual acquire movie while flipping the x-coord of the guide probe also did not find the star.

08:32 ACTIVE preset from IRAF to Persson star with off-axis guide star. Default PA=345 finds star on both sides.

08:34 resend same preset with PA=20 to get off the Y-axis. Succeeds.

AGW position (mm): 30.288, 43.562 AGW position (mm): 30.2836, 43.5623

08:36 Preset from LUCI for wakeup again at PA=0 - succeeds with similar left/right pointing. Could guide probe on SX be far decentered from the rotator axis? We recall that AGW4 had guide probe work done last year.
