Thunderstorms in the afternoon, but eventually clearing off for more UAO testing with CentOS6 and 7. Problems with the unplugged slave BCUs stopped UAO progress. We applied transform corrections, and took some more dice5 data.

nTotal becomes the new Offset Collimation Coefficient.

Why won't UAO start-up?

It turned out that MikeW unplugging the slave BCUs from the network this morning was not a good idea. That is what was preventing AO from starting in UAO mode.

W-Unit Transform

We realize that the approach of last nght's LUCI script was not the correct thing to do. Now we are running a new script that does dice5 dithers. DaveT's analysis of the 20141001 SX data (see email on 20141016) was that the rotation was 0.23 deg. I have changed $ADOPT_ROOT/calib/wfs/current/stage_transform.txt to have a rotation of +0.23 degrees as flao@wfssx.

11:15 I have changed $ADOPT_ROOT/calib/wfs/current/stage_transform.txt to have a rotation of -0.23 degrees as flao@wfssx.

11:36 I have changed $ADOPT_ROOT/calib/wfs/current/stage_transform.txt to have a rotation of +2.0 degrees as flao@wfssx. This tells us clearly the direction of the rotation on the LUCI camera.

11:49 I have changed $ADOPT_ROOT/calib/wfs/current/stage_transform.txt to have a rotation of +0.23 degrees as flao@wfssx. Next LUCI image is #118. This is to take a longer set of data as the differences between the first two sets were subtle. The dice cube is a quadrilateral, but not a rhombus or a square.

Why are some of the LUCI1 images elongated? vibration? TT gain? It seems worse as the sky gets brighter on the sixth set.

20160917: We (almost entirely Olga) finished analyzing the SX W1 transform data collected on 20160912 UT. The conclusion is that a rotation of +0.18 degrees is needed to align the W-unit offsets to LUCI1 pixel columns. If the slit is not parallel to the pixel columns, this number is easy to change.

This value has been installed in $ADOPT_ROOT/calib/wfs/current/stage_transform.txt (ssh flao@wfssx) See the instructions in Issue 5435.

NOTE: I ONLY put this on the CentOS 5.5 machine. Some combination of Xianyu and Alfio needs to propagate this to CentOS6/7 and the appropriate SVN location.

For future reference, a positive angle rotates the star pattern clockwise on the LUCI detector. The needed angle is measured by running a dice5 pattern of dithers with the AO loop closed (as above).
