~02:00 UT LBC-Blue filters fail 3 consecutive times on turn on. lbckill/lbcstart / testfilters ran OK / lbckill/lbcstart 02:15 UT - Turn On works fine.

Pointing Stars

01:55 Acquire preset to ACT0302

01:57 Acquire preset to M5_0713 - we see faint stars, but not the M5 star. Eventually found at IE=-7 CA=242

02:35 Acquire preset to AO728 on-axis

02:43 ACTIVE preset to AO728 gs=1

02:45 ACTIVE preset to AO728 gs=2 - seeing is more than 2 arcsec

DOHYBRID got a result that was decent for 2" seeing.

02:58 Change to LUCI2 only authorization.

LBC science-like observing (TOO observation)

Conditions: looks clear, but I don't think strictly photometric up there.

05:18 Reconfiguring to LBCs. While doing so, with the dome dark, taking 10 biases.

05:25 Slewing to GRB copoint field.

05:27 John running the new "dohybrid" to focus using WRS first, then FPIA. FPIA took 2 iterations after WRS. Converged with est seeing 1.28 (B) and 0.88 (R).

05:36 Take copointing images 053633(B) and 053628(R).

On LBC-Blue/LBC-Red the star is 18.1/15.4 arcsec away from the rotator center. Based on these, the following mount and optics offsets were calculated to co-point while optimizing the range available to M1: 
MOUNT: delta_IE = -8.51 arcsec, delta_CA = -14.66 arcsec
M1 SX: dX = -0.03 mm, dY = -0.05 mm, dRX = -1.11 arcsec, dRY = 0.68 arcsec 
M1 DX: dX = 0.03 mm, dY = 0.09 mm, dRX = 2.02 arcsec, dRY = -0.71 arcsec 

Do you want to send these offsets? Answer 'y' or 'Y' if so. Any other key will abort.

Sending the calculated optics offsets:
SX: dX = -0.032 dY = -0.052 dRX = -1.111 dRY = 0.676

05:43 IQ already very good, but will run dofpia once more before starting science (ri) OB.

05:44 Starting ri OB. Guide star FWHM 1.5(B)/1.3(R), worse than the estimate from the copointing images (FWHM~4 and 3.2 pix). First pair of images have FWHM ~ 4.8 pix/4.0 pix in B/R, <~1".

06:07 Seeing seems to really be going off. The images still look round, but huge. On 060100(B), FWHM~7.3pix and 6.5-7pix(R). We are about 1/2 way through the ri OB.

06:11 Variable seeing: few minutes ago, FWHM reported for guide stars ~3" on both channels, but now 1.7/1.3" on B/R.

06:21 ri OB complete. 5 of the images have FWHM<1.3". Running dofpia now.

06:26 Since seeing is variable and object was visible in the single ri images, will try gz now. FWHM at g ~6.6pix (1.5") and at z ~5.5pix (1.2")

07:03 gz OB completed.

07:03 Reconfiguring for more AO work.

10:15 Reconfiguring back to LBC now. Cirrus has come in and during the AO work, it diminished the guide star flux by ~1mag at times. Maybe about 2 mag extinction now.

10:34 Slew to UCAC2 2h32d copoint field. Note that field just transited. El=86 and dropping. Copointed:

10:40 John running dohybrid. Both blue/red were donuts initially (when supposedly in-focus on the copoint images), and red had a lot of astigmatism. dohybrid did well - the first dofpia pupils were uniform (blue had spherical, but dofpia is correcting that out now... no, it is not. It is in a z22 runaway on blue.) Ended with "S".

10:55 Loading UCAC2h32dbigbig0, to do a corner-to-corner 25-pt dither pattern at PA=0. Scaled 5-sec exptime by 6. B-Bessel and r-SLOAN.

11:13 Blue IQ was terrible halfway through OB. See FWHM values below --- they skyrocketed around 11:02

Stopping to focus. Blue side spherical problem - John added 1000 z11 to SX before 111804. But, dofpia is taking off the z11. The z22 gain has been set to zero on both sides (remained this way from last night, but the gain will be on again tonight when they change builds).

11:28. Stopped. John added 1400 nm Z11 to SX and 1000 nm Z11 on DX. Taking one pair of pupil images: 112954(B)/112948(R). Now add +400 z11 and +50 z22 to DX and +400 Z11 to SX. Running dofpia again. Had to use "S" to stop. Blue was again wanting negative z11 and z22.

11:40 Starting UCAC2h32dbigbig0 with scale factor 3 (to result in 15-sec exptime). Red exposures have 3.5pix FWHM, but blue are up/down elongated and ~6pix FWHM. Blue IQ actually improved over the course of the OB. On 120041, FWHM ~ 5.4pix.

12:07 OB finished. Going to run dofpia (red IQ was degrading) and try to repeat at PA=180. Converged in 2 iterations.

12:11 UCAC2h32dbigbig180 started. Forgot to scale - so exposures are 5-sec only. Sky background increasing. Stopped after 15 of 25 dithers. The image quality on both sides was, this time, pretty nice. What happened earlier to cause the runaway Spherical?
