Summary

Plan

   a) test new GCS with MODS1
   b) check NS guiding with MODS1
   c) test new GCS with LUCI1
   d) test NS guiding with LUCI1
   e) test 64-bit AOS closing loop on-sky
   f) binocular guiding test (with up to date telemetry)
(plus misc other software tests that don't consume time)
   g) measuring the practical AO patrol field
   starting ~7UT
   h) Gregorian cross-talk tests
   i) new Active Optics tests
   starting ~10UT
   j) WRS tests on LBC-Blue (and Red)

Preparations

Created list of potential fast-moving asteroids using Olga's script fastmover.pl. An improved version of the script lives in /home/lbcobs/supportscripts/NonsiderealSupport/ The list of main belt asteroids below is fine for our purposes here, but a flaw in this search procedure is that sbwobs.cgi gives you N asteroids first and does not give the more recently discovered earth-crossing objects with much higher rates. First column is the IAU number, and last colum is the rate.

I created ephemeris files for asteroids 66, 81,207,364,763 and 339,324,408,503. And I made guide star catalogs for the above asteroids.

Details

TCS Testing with 64-bit cluster

MODS1 monocular

02:02 First ACTIVE preset interupted by power glitch.

02:12 Init SX M2 hexapod since we saw lots of coma, but didn't make much difference.

02:20 10 minutes of guiding here for Michele

02:20:25 missing messages from syslog here

02:29 Hijack NS ACTIVE preset fails because /lbt/ephemeris isn't mounted on 64-bit cluster.

02:36 ACTIVE preset to asteroid 66 with gs=1

As expected, there is a guiding glitch at the time of the probe move. We've verified that it is broken the same as before.

LUCI1 monocular

02:44 Reconfigure for LUCI1 (and LUCI2 which isn't on the telescope)

03:04 ACQUIRE preset

03:06 ACTIVE preset - still starting with lots of coma

03:16 Hijack NS ACTIVE preset to asteroid 66 with gs=1

LUCI2 monocular

03:27 DX M3 is open loop (caused by earlier power glitches?) Cured by Init.

AOS right says lab mode. Doug M arrives in time to confirm that 64-bit AOS with text serialization is broken.

Doug Miller E-time

(in parallel Chris and Stephen are testing 32-bit AOS on right side)

LUCI1 monocular

05:35 Find the readWFScam left now writes the new image in /home/tcs. This is a local directory on the 64-bit machine so I do not have access to this file. Chris B called Stephen. John suggests that we can write a rsync command to insert into IDL to copy the file over.

07:32 Start working on primary crosstalk

07:33 /home/lbto/data/20150324/cross_1
  • Z4, 11, 22 = 500, 500, 300
  • cross_2 z4, 11, 22 = 1000, 1000, 500
  • find OLD crosstalk coefficients for 4, 11, 22, and none for higher order. Copy values from 32 bit 2014D
  • Find that the crosstalk coefficients constant with changing amplitude. Good!

07:50 Now with nearly correct crosstalk coefficients
  • cross_3 1000, 1000, 500
  • cross_4 500, 500, 300
  • cross_5 300, 300, 200
  • Note, the Z6 LUT on the primary was on even though the rigid secondary is mounted. Thus, the Z6 went from a negative value for Cross_3 to a large values for cross_5. I think this resulted in an under measurement of Z4 in cross_5 compared to _3 and _4
  • John turned off the Z6 LUT

08:47 change Z11/4 from 4.0 to 5.0

08:56 restart PSFL
  • cross_6 Z4 decrease from -600 to -400

09:18 change Z11/4 from 5.0 to 7.0. change Z22/11 from -2.3 to -3.0

09:20 restart PSFL

09:23 Collect cross_8
  • Wrong way on Z22/11
  • Too much on Z11/4

09:39 change Z11/4 from 7.0 to 5.5. change Z22/11 from -3.0 to -2.0
  • cross_9
  • Z11/22 and Z11/4 is spot on!
  • Z22/11 seems to be variable(150 to 400nm). Z22/4 not even close (-900nm)
  • Need more time on April 3rd and 4th
