Summary

Closed at the beginning of the night for heavy clouds. Did binocular presets with IDL.

Eventually got some transformation data for LUCI1@LFBG, but it doesn't look good in the on-the-fly analysis.

Lost an hour to an SX M3 problem - most of the time lost was due to an obscure error message.

LBC track_first

03:55 Ran LBC preset with "telescope" unchecked, so Kellee could see the error that her new executable for track_first makes. Saw a pop-up with an error in the cfitsio DLL.
The CMU crashed on LBC turn off after the testing. David had to power-cycle three times before it came back up.

05:39 SYNC ACQUIRE presets to M50881

06:04 SYNC ACTIVE presets BS9188 on-axis both fail - we don't understand why the right one failed. It said "guiding not active".

06:05 SYNC ACQUIRE presets to improve centering - why was it off by 10 arcsec compared to M5 star? SX IE=-93 CA=-45 DX IE=-20 CA=-152

06:10 SYNC ACTIVE presets again, left succeeds, right fails for guiding not active. Stop and restart GCSR.

06:12 Async right ACTIVE succeeds (it was a GCSR problem). Seeing is 0.9 to 1.1 arcsec, but improving.

Doug notices that DX AdSec has the old TS3 flat loaded -- outer S-H spots are ugly.

06:30 seeing has improved to 0.5 arcsec on SX guider and 0.6 arcsec on DX guider

Note: This transition provides some opportunity to compare slow binocular guiding with faster monocular guiding. See the guideplot from 6.2 to 7.2 UT. The plot also shows that conditions were changing, so such comparisons are a tricky business.

10:15 Exploring whether the error message might be coming from M3 -- David fixed it by tweaking (via GUI) the M3 tip-tilt which seemed to be stuck. ????? But we no longer have a star.

10:23 ACQUIRE preset to M5 star (it was about 30 sec away) - then we homed SX M3 and the star went to a different position.

Any motion as a function of focus position was lost in the drift of the telescope between the first (0004) and last (0008) exposure. That is the usual result of this experiment -- it just means that any axial misalignment is tolerable.

This transform calculated by Doug and Dave from the above data was installed for AGW1 at ~08:40 UT on 20130906.

With Dave Thompson's help, we have calculated a
new AGW1 transform.  It is:

should be installed in the AGWserver and the server restarted.

Note the RMS in x, y of 49, 38 microns is about as low as
we have determined in the past.

We should take a medium set of transform data to confirm that
this transform is good.  This would take about 1.5 hours in good
seeing (< 0.8").

The important item Dave included was determining the internal
flexure in LUCI using the pointing mask reference dots in LUCI
images to correct my initial transformation data.
