LBTO Focal Station Checkout, 21-22 May 2013 UT

These are the tests following the re-installation of the SX Adaptive Secondary.

  • LBTO Staff:
    • Doug and John in Remote observing room at Steward will be performing Focal Station checkout.
    • Juan Carlos online at home
  • LBTI Staff:
    • Andy and Vanessa at LBTO
    • Anybody in the Remote Observing room?

LFBG focal station: Seeing Limited Mode

  1. DONE Initial pointing and alignment (1 hour)
  2. DONE Collimate with Active Optics to make sure hexapod motions are correct (30 minutes)
  3. DONE Collect field data set (8 stars) to check binodal astigmatism (Seeing < 1.0" or postpone) (1 hour)
    • DONE Analyze LFBG field data set
      • < 1 hour required to determine if secondary position motion required
      • Switch to LCBG
      • LBTI spend this hour aligning the LCBG focal station and start diffraction limited testing
        • There are some internal alignments of LBTI, performed by LBTI people
    • DONE If a motion > 15" (on-sky) of secondary required then back to LFBG
      • Switch back to LFBG
      • Make secondary TT motion correction
      • Measure field data set (8 stars) to check binodal astigmatism has improved (1 hour)
    • If a motion of < 15" then make no changes
  4. DONE Propagate the M2 TT values to other focal stations

LDG focal station

  1. DONE Revert pointing and collimation files back to SX AdSec values determined on 20130202 (daytime)
  2. DONE Switch to LDG focal station (15 minutes)
  3. DONE Initial pointing and alignment (1 hour, but not needed if LFBG is adjusted)
  4. DONE Collimate with Active Optics (15 minutes)
  5. DONE Collect field data set (8 stars) to check binodal astigmatism (Seeing < 1.0" or postpone) (1 hour)
    • ALERT! Analyze LDG field data set
      • < 1 hour required to determine if secondary position motion required
      • If motion required, will make change tomorrow and start with LDG tomorrow night

LCBG focal station: Diffraction Limited Mode

  1. ALERT! LBTI Team will make Plan, LBTO people will support AdSec operation
    • Start with low order reconstructors, move to higher order to see if lost actuators have an effect
