UT 20130122 Technical Observing with AGW2
Observer: DMiller (LBTO) JHill (Tucson)
Telescope Operator: GBechetti (LBTO)

Instrument Support: ESolheid (LBTO)
Summary
We worked most of the night on AGW2 alignment tasks @ RFBG (originally scheduled for 24UT). Seeing was excellent (0.5-0.6 arcsec on guider) except for 9-10 UT.
We have verified RFBG active optics (95% was done last month on 20121229).
We have aligned the AGw2 probe to the rotator center (and fixed errors in the instructions).
We have adjusted the DX M3 tip-tilt to minimize the pupil wobble for "w". Doug's new routine to measure the pupil position makes this faster.
We've checked the angle of dice5 offsets relative to the IRTC columns, and it is OK until LUCI2 arrives for a precise measurement.
We've collected a preliminary set of transformation data for AGw2.
We've collected one set of RFBG field aberration data at EL=58, and started on a second set at EL=30. There were lots of struggles with saturated wfs images, but the data have little atmospheric noise.
Details
02:40 Found that I had left the WFS_high_factor to 0.8 in December, and had not completed the task of finding the correct signs for the high order zernikes (Z12-22). Set factor to 0.0 and now stable convergence. FWHM = 0.5"

Based on the encoder counts above, we think we want to shift encoder counts by dX=-26 and dY=-9883. The wiki instructions (
BGTechProcedures) say to
change homeoffset on each axis. We tried that.
04:43 reboot oacserver, but "network error" after that causes another round of restarting. We see that this didn't make any change in the Y (RAD) position. Scratch our heads for a while. Finally decided to change ooffset rather than homeoffset. Need to check later with Jesper to see if this was kosher.
05:25 John change parameters in oacontrol.conf (RAD ooffset moved from 419000 to 409117). That was way too much - probe runs into limit. Try dividing by 16.....
05:38 John change parameters in oacontrol.conf (RAD ooffset moved from initial 419000 to 418382 by subtracting 9883/16). Somewhat better.....

12:40 changed wfs exposure time to 25000, but didn't restart GCS (ok). Is failing to find info file because of wfs saturation? That helped, but wasn't enough. Stars really are saturated in this good seeing.
