Day Time Tasks

  • ALERT! Check Edge Nozzles for Mirror Ventilation
  • ALERT! Make flat fields and/or bad pixel files for AGW1 and AGW2
  • ALERT! Check Mirror Cell catwalk reported vibration
  • ALERT! Fix the DX M2 RY limit in the collimation model as we did for LBTI. Or is it better to switch back to an older model?
  • ALERT! Update the non-LUCI collimation models if we succeed at making improvements at LFBG
  • ALERT! Make InformationTechnology for updated configuration files
  • DONE Checkout of AGW#2, once cables are installed
    • DONE Stage and camera operation and communication to GCS (TS)
    • DONE Guider and wfsc image acquisition via GCS with IDL (DLM after TS)
  • DONE Confirm operation of IRTC, once cables are installed (DLM)
  • DONE Change configurations for 180 degree rotation of AGW#2
    • The reason for changing the RFBG rotator was to have the patrol field for the guide probe to be to the South of the on-axis star position for Position Angle (PA) = 0.0. This will be consistent with MODS1.
    • Following is a history of observations and changes
      1. Modify the defined 0.0 rotation position of the RFBG instrument rotator in MCSPU to be 180.0 from where it was defined previously.
      2. Previous orientation (20Jun2012), a PresetTelescope straight South (Az=180) with Position Angle 0.0 had the requested rotator angle of 0.0.
        • Previous RFGB back view with rotator at 0.0 degrees. Note that North is up and to the right (2:00) and the Guide Probe patrol field is also up and to the right (2:00)

      3. New orientation (26Dec2012) we want a PresetTelescope straight South (Az=180) with Position Angle 0.0 to have the requested rotator angle of 180.0.
        • New RFGB back view with rotator at 180.0 degrees. Note that North is up and to the right (2:00) and the Guide Probe patrol field is down and to the left (7:00)

      4. DONE Does this mean we modify the PCSInstrument.conf file and change RIGHTZEROPOINT from 0.0 to 180.0? Yes
        • Rotates the AGw by 180 for the same requested Position Angle
        • The KFP X,Y coordinates calculated by the PCS for use by the GCS and AO System are rotated by 180 degrees
        • Guide and Active Optics corrections, and the Adaptive Optics low and high order offloads are still correct
  • So the questions remain:
    • DONE Do we need to change parameters for Guiding (pointingCorr and guidingCorr flip_x and flip_y)? No
    • DONE Do we need to change parameters for Active Optics (WFS_rotAngleOffs)? Yes
    • ALERT! Do we need to change parameters in the AO Supervisor (re-rotator offset, high and low order offloading)?

Night Time Tasks

Adaptive Optics Tasks

  • ALERT! AO Pyramid stage transformation data collection on DX with IRTC (DLM)

Active Optics Tasks

  • ALERT! AGW2 alignment (DLM) priority=high, sky=good seeing, time=12 hours
    1. DONE Change RIGHTZEROPOINT from 0 to 180 for RFBG
    2. DONE Send on-axis preset (default PA) to see if acquisition and guiding works properly
    3. DONE Does collimation work properly. Had to change WFS_rotangleOffs to 0.0 from 180.0?
    4. DONE Does offsetting work properly?
    5. DONE Send on-axis preset at a different position angle
    6. DONE Send an off-axis preset (on the Y-axis)
    7. DONE Send an off-axis preset (off the Y-axis)
    8. ALERT! Make adjustment to RIGHTZEROPOINT so RA/Dec offsets are along Rows/Columns of IRTC
    9. ALERT! Measure center of rotator on Guider and set guider on-axis encoder counts to be 0,612.5 (see BGTechProcedures)
    10. ALERT! Set tertiary position so nearly zero wfsc pupil wobble

Guiding Tasks

  • DONE Verify CCD readout parameters for acquisition image - Issue 4251 (JMH) priority=high, sky=flexible, time=0.5 hour
    • Does acquisition image look OK with the new readout parameters? Yes, but not all issues are solved.
    • Is the calculated hotspot still in the correct location wrt/wfs? Yes

Binocular Tasks

  • ALERT! Confirm binocular acquisition PCS patch on-sky for binocular observations - Issue 4328 or Michele's email of 20121128 (JMH or DLM) priority=medium, sky=flexible, time=1 hour We did a short test, but needs more time.
    • Send SYNC binocular ACTIVE presets to 3 targets with well-aligned, and mis-aligned pointing.
  • DONE Confirm binocular acqusition PCS patch on-sky for monocular observation (JMH) priority=high, sky=flexible, time=0.5 hour
    • Send an active preset, and some offsets; then deploy it for other observations and tests.
  • ALERT! Confirm binocular DETXY offset amplitudes on-sky - Issue 4142 (JMH) priority=high, sky=good seeing, time=1 hour (combine with Issue 4328 tests)
  • ALERT! Measure leaking rates with guiding blocked (JMH) priority=medium, sky=good seeing, time=1 hour
  • ALERT! Measure leaking performance with guiding running (JMH) priority=low, sky=good seeing, time=2 hours

Image Quality Tasks

  • ALERT! Test pointing suppressed collimation and pointing models from DSA (JMH or DLM) in advance of Field Aberration Data
  • DONE Collect LFBG Field Aberration Data at EL=45-50 deg - Issue 4400 (DLM or JMH) priority=very high, sky=good seeing, time=1.5 hours
  • DONE Collect LDG or LFBG Field Aberration Data at a higher or lower elevation - Issue 4420 (DLM or JMH) priority=high, sky=good seeing, time=1.5 hours
  • DONE Collect LDG Field Aberration Data (DLM or JMH) priority=medium, sky=good seeing, time=1.5 hours
  • ALERT! Additional Focus Data for LBC-Blue ? (JMH)
  • ALERT! LUCI Pupil Adjustments to cancel wobble ?? (needs Walter)
  • ALERT! LUCI Science Data to confirm image quality (JMH + LUCI observer) priority=medium, sky=good seeing

Pointing and Collimation Tasks

  • ALERT! Adjusted SX Monocular Pointing Model (w/Collimation Models adjusted for Issue 4366) (JMH or DLM) priority=high, sky=flexible, temperature=stable, time=1 hour (12 stars)
    • Verify that pointing and collimation are still OK, and that DSA got the sign of the tube flexure term correct.
  • ALERT! Binocular Range-Balanced Collimation Model (JMH or DLM) priority=medium, sky=flexible, temperature=stable
    • At a number of elevations, copoint and range balance using binorb .
  • ALERT! Binocular Range-Balanced Pointing Model (JMH or DLM) priority=medium, sky=flexible, temperature=stable
  • ALERT! Measure practical dither range with the new models (JMH) priority=low, sky=flexible
