UT 20120107 LBC Technical Observations

Summary

Clear sky with seeing <1.0'' for most of the night.
Measured the rotator center of the IRTC and AGw, since the previous values were obtained during bad seeing conditions.
Several transform datasets have been collected and a new transformation has been calculated and implemented.
The rms of the final transformation is of the order of 50micron and it is half of what had been previously estimated. The transform data obtained with the new transformation confirm these values. The data set to check the new transformation give xrms=39 and yrms=37. Maybe Jesper can get a better fit to the data than can I (Doug)
Several collimation and dice5 datasets were also collected in various elevations.

The irtc data were being written in /newdata, but not digested by the archive. Thus they are not in /Repository/20120107. I created data subdirectories for all the data sets we have and copied the irtc data from /newdata to these directories (eg /OldRepository/AGW_Data/20120107/transform_I/data).

00:26 Going up at the beginning of the night to check the leaking problem and check IRTC.
  • Doug is not able to communicate with the camera.

01:30 Moving towards opening. IRTC is working now
  • they found a way to bypass the leaking problem. The small AGW is beeing cooled but not the pyramid...

01:44 Preseting to the first star for pointing correction and collimation.

Doug sent the email:
John, John and I inspected the leaky fittings and found
a couple of drops of glycol on one of the fittings/hose
and a couple drops on the AGw outer wall.  We wiped
everywhere we could and then put pig (absorbent cloth
around the wet fitting and on the outer wall of the AGw.
Both are jammed tight so they cannot move.  These
should absorb any more drops that the might come
out of the hose insulation.

The IRTC did not communicate, but a power cycle of
the IRTC computer and IRTC power did the job.

We are ready to operation and David is opening the
Chamber doors.

01:50 Interesting looking acquisition image with a double central obscuration hole. After some manual focus by David we see some astigmatism (3:1 sausage) and some coma. 10 iterations of active optics and we are down to 0.6" fwhm on the guider.

Measure Rotator Center on IRTC

02:09 Preset to ACT0297 (7mag in R) to determine the center of rotation of the IRTC. David set IE=-18, CA=-39 from -10, -50.

02:15 Preset in ACTIVE mode with GS=1. Starting wfsc 28. 3:1 sausage form astigmatism.

02:20 Every third WFSC image has two stars in each subap. If I watch the guider, the is a guide image that is about 1" off. Look at wfsciamge00034.fits

Will use 40 milisecond exposures at 15 herz, 900 frames to get 60 seconds of rotation

  • in one 1,1 offset the single image recorded was 'none' - to process this set I need to copy there the name of the single image of another 1,1 offset, because the only info it gets from this file is the offset values.
