Summary
Rick wants to switch to taking MODS1 data in this photometric weather with 0.5 arcsec seeing, but we wouldn't let him.
The last X-flip correction (pcsmx) from last night has been verified.
On-axis active optics is now working for both GCS and IDL. Off-axis active optics has passed the initial check, but not detail calibrations. Something is making far off-axis active optics diverge in GCS.
The Focus position on the IRTC (relative to WFS) has been verified.
We started collecting transform data, and uncovered a couple minor bugs in IDL.. We got an initial transform data set of 17 stars on Stone_A2.
Rick processed the data and Jesper made a new transform for us.
We got a set of field data on BS9107 in superb seeing, but had a lot of trouble because the rotator reports ready while it is still moving. There also seem to be some active optics problems (unspecified) with the field_collect script.
We worked a bit on M3 aligment, but didn't find any position better than what we had. We installed our M3 positions into oss.conf to make collimation go faster.
Preparations
cp -p AIP_L_RM_sub11.cfg AGW1_IRTC_RM_sub11.cfg (it had previously duplicated RFBG zernike gains which are different). This was why GCS active optics diverged in coma last night.
LBTI has retroreflector on M2 on the right side for continuing adaptive optics calibrations.
Michele gave us a patch to PCS related to rotator RPC errors.
Details
Open
00:42 Open to some gorgeous photometric weather. T=5.7 degC, D=-33.5 degC, Wind steady at 6 m/sec from WNW.
ACQUIRE preset to pointing star. Had to enable RZ collimation (whenever we have the global offset).
01:02 ACQUIRE preset to BS9183 - Why is the star significantly out of focus? This collimation model has been
magnificent until now. David had to add 0.6 mm to M1 Zglobal. Temp1=5.93 Temp2=3.14. Could be that the mirrors are cold from last night.
01:12 GUIDE preset gs=1 PA=INDEF=30 - OK x=0 y=562
01:14 GUIDE preset gs=1 PA=60 x=-24.9 y=569.2 - OK pcsmx flip is OK
Initial Active Optics Comparison
01:17 ACTIVE preset gs=0 on-axis - converges quickly to 0.5 arcsec (5 iterations)! But image is slightly triangular (seeing is better than 0.5 arcsec and Z9 - Z10 are crosstalking).
Jochen starts eavesdropping WFS analysis in IDL using gcs_wfsc_display. This allows us to compare GCS and IDL results.

After talking to Doug, I'll bet we have the wrong reconstructor in IDL. (sextractor test version)
NOTE: The correct reconstructor is being used. I did switch off subtraction of reference centroids and it improved things a bit. I turned on subtraction of the background and the results got worse. I thought Torsten had background subtraction on in GCS so I don't understand why the IDL results go worse. DLM 20111104
Z4,Z5,Z6 have effective gains about x2 lower than GCS.
Z9,Z10 are down by x3-x4.
(we didn't test Z7, Z8,Z11)
I don't see any evidence of crosstalk between the mode pairs.
Focus of IRTC
Unrestrict DD variables for LBTtools.IRTC.takepic
In the DD variable list called by takepic, there is an obsolete entry.
Thu Nov 3 02:09:33.448 2011 GetMultiDDEntry alert for left IRTC: Offset not found: ecs.weatherStation.smt.ambientTemperature
The actual variable is env.weather.smt.....etc.
Dave fixed this, but reminds us that the IRTC subpackage in LBTtools is obsolete.
Can't see BS9183 star on IRTC.
It looks like the IRTC cooler isn't working. Rebooted IRTC Windows PC. That fixed the problem, but the problem wasn't necessarily the cooler.

Jochen created .list file for Stone_O for LBBG at PA=180 as the other list was for star appropriate for MODS at PA=0.
The first off-axis active preset converged OK with GCS.
03:30 transform_collect, /GCS had a problem with the IRTC argument to instrument_........ Called Doug for a patch. Doug fixed that in 10 minutes.
Then transform_collect choked when fits_gcs_to_struct failed to find a .info file for a .fits image which was bogus.

This has a wobble of about 3 lenslets - not an improvement.
Thus we return to our selector position adopted last night of -25.789.
04:54 on-axis ACTIVE preset failed
04:55 repeating same preset succeeded with star in different place in acq image. Looks like rotator is

LEFTZEROPOINT is 114.8
05:00 back to Stone_O for transformation data, but still some IDL bugs
06:14 another try at transform_collect, /GCS still on Stone_O at EL=25 degrees. The bugs are getting more subtle, as it crashed only when there were three bad WFS images in a row. Images are 0.75 arcsec at EL=23.3 degrees.
06:28 transform_collect, /GCS
06:40 Coma diverged off the Y-axis when we came back from EL=23 to EL=53. Cleared corrections and try again.
06:46 Clear Active Optics on both mirrors.
06:47 ACTIVE preset on-axis to recollimate - guider seeing is 0.55 arcsec.
06:51 transform_collect, /GCS
Even from a good starting point, GCS active optics diverges badly at x=68 y=542
06:57 ACTIVE preset on-axis to recollimate, Clear Active Optics on M2 and M1
07:02 transform_collect, /GCS but now David will block sending of zernikes to PSF. Guider seeing is 0.4 arcsec at EL=50 deg.
07:20 transform_collect stopped at star 5, PA=180, not clear why, suspect is rotator not yet ready
07:22 Redo: transform_collect, /GCS, limit=4000, STAR=3, failed again, star seems not to exist, restart with STAR=4, failed also,
preset on-axis, redo, OK, star is there
07:35 transform_collect Stone_A2_LBBG, /GCS, LIMIT=4000 Seeing is excellent, we'll try to collect quite a few transformation data
07:46 recollimate, on-axis, continue with Stone_A2_LBBG, PA=90
07:57 star 13 was out of reach at PA=90. continuing, stopped after 17th star at PA=180

JMH (20111123): Andrew's verbal report on this field data was that there was a slight focal plane tilt, but no serious problems.
11:50 Installed Jesper's new transform as oacontrol.conf. Jesper wrote:
I have computed a new transform assuming the hotspot on the IRTC to be at

50microns RMS. If I use only the data with PA=180 the RMS gets below
30microns.
The revised config file is in the home directory of the agwuser account with
the name: /home/agwuser/oacontrol.conf.20111103a
and you can install it at your convenience.
