05:00 John filled LBC and MODS

05:15 Doug and Geno went up to the roof to check for any ice. There was a little bit blown up against the edge of the roof.

05:45 Doug, Geno and Michael went up to the roof. Michael walked around a bit on the roof and kick a couple piles. He decided if we turn the building, it would probably blow off. Geno rotated the building 180 and back 90.

06:15 Open the chamber

06:30 Put the telescope at horizon and Simone et al check to see that the tree house fans were off. They though the crane was not parked and partially vignetting the primary. Michael took a look and tried to move the crane further in the home direction, but it did not move. Decided it was properly parked.

06:45 Geno sent a preset in acquire mode from IRAF to M5_0899. No star found. Run ptspiral and found the star. Geno put it on the hotspot with IE=-35 CA=25

07:10 preset BS9188 ACQUIRE. See out of focus star. Geno tweaked the focus and set IE=-35 CA=35

07:20 preset BS9188 ACTIVE. Seeing is 2-3". Active optics is slow to "converge" because the pinhole is filled.

07:35 preset AO738 ACTIVE gs=7 Collimate once and turn over to AO guys.

07:40 AO loop is close via the AOS GUI

08:45 Primary is 2C out of equilibrium so Geno turned on mirror ventilation and preset to a new, higher star. AO49, gs=6

08:55 Active Optics collimated to 400 nm rms. Turn off guiding and Active. Take AO data with ventilation on. Will also take data with off for comparison.

09:45 Primary is same temperature as ambient. Turn off ventilation to collect more data.

10:05 preset OC_M103 ACE, TS=1, RS=0, GS=73 Success!!

10:09 irc_runao failed three times because seeing got worse and the reference star was not bright enough. Alfio lowered the star magnitude and the seeing cooperated. Each time, guiding and active optics restart.

10:13 Closed AO Loop, Off-Axis, with IRC/IIF Commands!!

10:15 Collect IRTC images in large FOV so can see both reference and target stars

10:20 Seeing gets so bad, skipping all frames. Send irc_stopao. Guiding and Active Optics restart.

10:25 preset OC_M103 ACE, TS=1, RS=0, GS=73 Success, but grabbed the wrong guide star so reference star was not in the correct place.

10:27 preset M5_1040 ACQUIRE GS=0 PARALLACTIC Failed: Rotator fault RFBG. Geno called Steve and restarted the MCSPU.

10:35 preset M5_1040 ACQUIRE GS=0 PARALLACTIC Success. Set IE=-60, CA=34

10:40 preset OC_M103 ACE, TS=1, RS=0, GS=73 Success!!

10:41 Rotator failure RFBG. Geno called Dan. Went to 5th floor to swap fibers and Dan will reconfigure MCSPU

11:05 preset M5_1040 and set IE=-77 CA=55

11:13 preset OC_M34 ACE, TS=11, RS=8, GS=27 Success. Collimate to 500 nm rms in 6 iterations. However, only one star on IRTC. Try t send offset, 5, 0. AOS returned (Illegal command for state ReadyToAcquire.

11:31 irc_runao Failed, centering procedure failed in AO. Alfio reacquire background on TV and change RS mag

12:21 preset failed because guiding did not fine star. Bright star is on the edge of the acquisition image 721

12:25 Geno set IE-88, CA=55. preset failed with no guide star in acquisition image. Plus, the first acquisition image with the size of a guiding box

12:33 preset failed to guide after 6 iterations. Then IIF was waiting or presetAO to return. Then failed with error: AZCam returned an acquisition image in guide loop size. trying to force full frame readout and repeat request for acquisition and finally guiding not stable in 6 iterations. AO guys continuing with manual mode.

12:44 preset AO1071 ACE, RS=0, GS=9, PA=180 successful. runao successful, but IIF received an adaptive mode off from AOS so guiding and Active Optics started. This seemed strange to Alfio because the loop had closed, but was skipping frames. He didn't think AOS would have sent a loop open message to the IIF.

01:37 preset AO262 ACE, RS=0, GS=13, runao, Success, IIF turns on guiding and wfs. Turn them off on GUI. AO guys take a bunch of data. Then the luminosity become variable

02:31 preset AO263 ACE, RS=0, GS=3, runao, Success, IIF turns on guiding and wfs. Turn them off on GUI.

03:00 Geno rotated the chamber to check the weather. Highest speed was 16 m/s

03:10 preset AO263 ACTIVE, GS=3, PA=180 Successful. AO loop close with AOSGUI

04:00 The flux on the pyramid, tech viewer and IRTC seems to be fluctuating by 10-15%. This does not have much effect on bright stars, but give a big hit to performance for dim stars. AO guys try to figure out the cause of the problem. The moon is full, but not pointed near it. There does not seem to be any high clouds.

05:30 A memory leak in the AO Supervisor software required a power cycle of the Adaptive Secondary. Also had to rehome the hexapod.
