Telescope and AGw Commissioning at LFBG with IRTC - 30April-01May 2009 MST

Summary

  • Focus jump at MST 20:32 +/- 1 minute, anything in accelerometers or ??
  • Re-checked AGW zeropoints - they are OK
  • Additional collimation data (warmer tonight) agrees with two nights ago and Dec LUCI data.
  • Medium scale (+/-10 arcsec) offset data taken, consistent with AGW transform residuals.
  • Field Aberration data taken
  • NGC7027 image taken
  • Time lost: 35 minutes to encoder issues, 25 minutes to SW (LSS, see IT#2152)

Preparations

DJT installed a new SX IRTC pointing model (irtc.20090430.ptmod). The model has 5.5 arcsec rms and only uses the basic ALTAZ parameters (IA IE NPAE CA AW AN) plus tube flexure (TF) and an AZ harmonic (HACA2). The AZ scale error was consistent with zero. This new model has been made the default in PCSInstrument.conf for IRTCBGF (SX and DX), and later was made the starting point for IRTCD (Direct Gregorian).

JMH updated the collimation model SXPMIRTCFCollimation.20090430.dat to be a version with tamer temperature coefficients than those derived two nights ago. This version uses the collimation data from two nights ago, and the temperature coefficients derived from the December 2008 LUCIFER data. tX=+0.060 tY=-0.110 tZ=+0.135 trx=+0.20 try=-1.6

20:11:06.238 pointto M5_1246 and ptspiral...star not found. DGH to re-sync to motor encoders.

20:23:36.063 pointto M5_1246 again, yes, star well-centered on IRTC!

20:26:40.682 pointto BS9143 gs=0 Tel="ACTIVE" to collimate on axis. WFS: 3518, 1389, 795, 356, 352, 257, 292

20:32 +/- 1 minute we had a collimation jump (focus) that appeared to happen between WFS updates.

20:35:36.648 acquire mode preset to tweak pointing now that we are collimated. IE changed from -74.22 to -72.6, CA from 6.4 to 1.4

Rechecking AGW calibrations...
guider000004.fits rotator spun 360 degrees while exposing. Encoder zeropoints are OK (~100mas or less). We do not need to re-do the hotspot location, and the pupil position should be derived from the AGW transform calibration data.

Tweak pointing before retaking another set of collimation data: IE=-72.5 CA=1.0

Note: lost some of the table above due to user error, check image headers (JMH: I recovered the IRTC numbers.)

00:22 JMH installed (but did not initialize) the collimation model based on the above data. The data is noiser than the data from 20090429 UT. When this data is combined with 20090429 UT (at a different temperature) the resulting data set gives temperature coefficients that are consistent with the Dec 2008 LUCI coefficients listed above.

Seeing is not great (~1 arcsec), but things are quite stable in terms of temps, equilibrium.
