Wind speed 5m/s open.

Sky flat in JHKs

Running full science observations without any problems. Good run of the AO loop and telescope.

Science targets observed: M15 (central region), HR7988 (ADI technique),45Eugene (asteroid), IRC+10(Normal AO close loop and using ND).

Calibration of the IN on sky during an observations gap.


23:20 openining dome to start narrow band with ND+H
  • 15sec give 11000counts - 7000counts

00:00 take off ND to go on with sky flats
  • late again for NB - we only got 2000counts in Brg
  • moving to Ks
  • changing filter to H - we get OffsetZAO error
===> Error in irc_offsetzao
        err = Resmsg[0]  = OffsetZAO result status: Error
        err = Resmsg[1]  = OffsetZ rejected. Busy serving AdsecSet [226]
* this happened because in the same time the shell was set.

  • J - 12000counts - 10000counts
  • H - 10000counts
  • K - 6000counts

01:00 finish with sky flats - start a sequence of dome flats in K. *dome flat Ks.
  • - lights off after image cq*.20111016.0390.fits

01:43 open dome
  • correct collimation and pointing

02:12 preset to M15
  • photometry in crowded fields
  • preset failed - error in autogain (SW bug)
  • set of images in the center of M15 + sky frames
  • second preset failed - time out error - try again

03:58 preset to HR8799 for ADI
  • 2hr on the target with the rotator stopped.
  • to acquire a sky field for the target : Active preset - pause - the offset is done manually by the T.O - resume script and execute dither pattern
  • there has been a pisces-server error that cancelled the script
  • repeat preset and sky acquisition

07:26 Track preset on Eugenia45 for non-sidereal guiding
  • send the preset in Track
  • find the asteroid with the AO - close the loop
  • dither manually using the AO engineering GUI.
  • in each position we get 10x1.5sec and 4x60sec.
  • repeat in 3 filters (JHK)

09:43 Preset to a standard star BS9107
  • preset failed - correct pointing
  • the preset did not bring us to the right position
  • we need to correct pointing and collimate on-axis.
  • two times after correcting pointing, we preset to the star it is not in the field.
  • we lost 45 min not beeing able to get the standa

10:34 Preset to HKTauB
  • guide star not found because the background on the guider is too high
  • also the AO guider is completely saturated
  • HKTauB is probably too close to the moon (11deg) - we cannot do it - we go back to standards

10:42 Preset to standard BS9126
  • preset failed - check pointing
  • pisces is upside down for this observation (temp 74.72)
  • we do 2 dither patterns with 2 different exptimes (15sec and 30sec)
  • we take the standard in open loop but with the rotator at 90deg. (now pisces is not upside down - temp 74.87)

11:27 - repeat standard BS9126 in closed loop
  • shell ripped - too few photons ... is it getting cloudy?

11:36 preset to PsfIRC+10 (Jared's target)
  • the star was fainter than anticipated - we had to integrate for 20sec in Brg

11:55 go to the dome and install the ND for the IRC+10 observations

12:12 preset to IRC+10
  • with 0.8sec is saturated in Brg+ND
  • we change filter to FeII+ND and it is not saturated - we do dither pattern.

12:43 The AO lost the star - End of night
  • do a set of long darks for corquad, waiting to do ND flats
  • pisces server is down - we restart

14:00 open dome to do flats with ND (K+ND,H+ND)

15:25 end of darks
