Summary

Everyone stayed at the LBT last night

Doug woke up at 6:30 am and helped Jeff install the retroreflector. This was completed at 8:00.

Jay showed Simone and Doug how to turn off/on the dry air flowing across the PISCES entrance window (installed yesterday), and how to adjust the pressure. Currently the pressure is at 5 psi. We also turned off the URTH fans to minimize vibrations. This morning the Italians will test of the dry air flow across the PISCES window has any effect on the image quality (strehl).

Retroreflector work started at 9:00.

Simone and Lorenzo placed a NF filter in front of PISCES so the J, H and K filters do not saturate. They optimized the some loop parameters to improve the strehl measured in J and K. However, the H images do not have a peaked central psf, but dip down in at the center. They think it may be caused by spherical aberration. One of the first task tomorrow is run their non-common path aberration routines on the H filter and see if it is indeed spherical.

I worked more on my IDL routines to communicate to PISCES. I have almost finished the routine that will read a raw PISCES image from /newdata, rewrite the header, add DD variables to the header, run corquad (remove ghosts and change counts from signed integer to unsigned integer) and write out a new file. Currently I am writing the new file in /OldRepository. I think these new fits files should be written in /newdata so the archive routines process them and make multiple copies. This will require some discussion with the InformationTechnology people.

I do not know if they have any conclusions about the effect of the dry air flowing across the PISCES window on Image quality, nor if the refurbishment of the URTH fans was an improvement.

OSU is observing with LUCI so we left the retroreflector mounted. Thus, I do not have to get up quite so early tomorrow.
