Results for Daytime SX Tests with CCD39 Noise


Summary

The important plots to look at are:
  • Bin 1: The first three modal plots.
    • These plot show the input modal distribution (red line) of the seeing disturbance. The same atmospheric seeing disturbance was used in all three data sets. The white line is the modal distribution of the residual wavefront error. The lower the residual line, the better the AO performance. When the red line and white line intersect, no correction has been applied to that mode.
    • The performance in the second model plot for the UR quadrant noise is quite poor.
    • The modal plot of the current CCD39 noise on all quadrants is pretty good. The residual of high order modes is about the same compared to the model plots of the original residuals when the reconstructors were measured in Feb. 2016.
    • The reason the performance on 20170130 looks better (less noise) than the original modal plots from 20160229 is that the seeing on the recent data MAY be a FACTOR OF TWO LESS. This is being investigated. The seeing values quoted below assume the seeing for RetroReflector measurements are value the disturbance file were create to simulate and a factor of 2 less for ARGOS CalUnit measurements (double pass -vs- single pass respectively)
    • I would suggest that the AO performance with the new CCD39 noise on all the quadrants now will be VERY SIMILAR to the performance before the additional noise (Feb 2016).
  • Bin 2 : The fourth through sixth modal plots.
    • As with the Bin 1 result, the performance with the CC39 UR quadrant noise is poor, but the current noise on all quadrants may cause some performance degradation, but less than the degradation of Bin 1
    • As noted for Bin 1 data, the seeing on the recent data MAY be a FACTOR OF TWO LESS.
  • Bin 4: The seventh and eighth modal plots.
    • The same conclusion for Bin 4 as for Bin 2
  • At the end of the page there are additional plots for data collected in various configurations
  • We collected some LUCI1 and IRTC focal plane data with a few of these set, but these analyses is still in progress
